Car accident: Pedestrian struck, killed in Alabama crosswalk

There are a variety of different ways to legally utilize Alabama roadways. Because of this variety, all users — especially those driving a motor vehicle — must be aware of others in the area and take action to prevent causing a car accident that could have serious consequences. The recent death of a pedestrian demonstrates the potential harm that an accident can create.

The incident that resulted in a 33-year-old woman’s death reportedly happened during the morning hours of a day in early August. According to reports, the victim was in a crosswalk when an eastbound vehicle struck her. The vehicle then struck a nearby hotel.

While no damage to the hotel was reported, the pedestrian died at the scene due to the injuries suffered in the accident. Reports claim that the driver of the motor vehicle remained at the scene and cooperated with police. It is unclear if criminal charges are anticipated.

Unfortunately, a family is now left to deal with the consequences of the unexpected death of their family member. Often, such a loss creates financial difficulties for which most families are unprepared. When funeral expenses are combined with lost wages, families can often feel overwhelming stress in addition to their grief. As such, some families in Alabama will choose to file a wrongful death lawsuit against the parties deemed responsible if their loss was the result of a car accident caused by negligence. An attorney with experience with such cases can help these family members determine if this choice may be an option they are interested in pursuing.
